Good afternoon everyone, I thought I would take this opportunity to report on the recent trip I have had back to Perth to oversee the training of our 13 horses in work at Ascot. We also took a trip down to Capel which is a beautiful part south of Perth to inspect the horses in the paddock.

The stable is in really great shape, I have been terribly pleased with the job that Nick Cox and his staff have done over there, the horses look in tremendous condition and we are just starting to see some young horses come through with some positive results. We just got beaten a Pinjarra last Thursday with a lightly raced up and coming stayer called SINGLE WARRIOR and we have had some nice runs with our Melbourne horses there in MILITARY KISS who just recently was narrowly beaten at Ascot and promising runs from DENUNCIATE and EASY. Our young horses purchased last year in Perth are really starting to take shape and in general I am happy with how the stable is structured and the progress it has made.

For those who have not traveled to Perth, I encourage you to take the time to get over there, it is a lovely city, I have been lucky enough on my visits to get down to some tremendous tracks at Bunbury and Pinjarra and as I said down south is Capel which is a beautiful area for the beaches. I had the good fortune to visit Glen Webster who is a prominent restaurateur and bookmaker in Perth. I had lunch at his café called the Blue Duck Café in Cottesloe and if you are in the vicinity I would recommend having either breakfast, lunch or dinner there. Glen’s hospitality is fantastic and he does not mind taking the money of some eastern staters.

I would like to encourage anyone who is traveling to or around Perth to feel welcome to visit the stables at any time, Nick and his staff there would be only too happy to see you. For those owners in Melbourne who have currently got horses in work that may be struggling at midweek class here, I think it is well worth giving some thought to racing in Perth, the stakes money is very good and it gives our horses another option to earn a bit more money which will keep everyone happy. It is also a great market for horses to be on-sold.
