At only her second race start, the Tony Noonan trained Zarzing stepped up yesterday to a Listed Race at Flemington on Oaks day. the Gucci Icons of Heritage Stakes ($150,000) over 1000M.

The significant rise in class from a Kyneton Maiden, plus the big occassion, was always going to be a tall order for well bred Hussonet / Zarakiysha filly, but the experience was to be invaluable.

And what an experience and education it turned out to be. With Dwayne Dunn taking the ride from stable apprentice Jake Noonan (suspended), the filly made her way to the stalls with a clerk of the course lead only to run into trouble behind the barriers whe she was kicked by another runner. A vet inspection followed in front of the barrier and she was declared fit to run. After a fair beginning Zarzing suffered tightening and bumping between runners after about 100m but recovered to race mid field again between runners and behind a wall of runners - all new to her.

She got clear to the inside about the 300m and made some ground quickly, although racing a little ungenerously, and in the run home finished off well under the circumstances.

Whilst finishing officially 9th to the very smart race winner in Shamel Wind, it was noticed the winner blitzed over the 1000m in 1.08.32 with Zarzing beating home several well credentialled runners.

Tony Noonan and Dwayne Dunn both thought the filly went "super" and that she would benefit immensely from the experience. All owners should be very encouraged by the performance and all indications were that a win may be just around the corner.
