What a terrific and memorable week the Tony Noonan Racing stable has had. Firstly one of the highlights was our first metropolitan winner in Perth since we have set up our stable over there. The three-year-old colt BETTER THAN DARCY who had won a maiden at Stony Creek had his third run over there and his first run at the 1600m and was able win with Shaun McGruddy in the saddle who has been doing some of our riding in Perth. Congratulations to owner Neven Botica. We have not had a lot of runners in Perth to this date, some horses that we have sent over from here who have been placed in THE PENSKI FILE and we did win a race at Northam with LORDSEA. This was our first win in town though and congratulations must go to Nick Cox who is managing the stables over there. Nick and his staff have worked really hard, we have got a tremendous set up over there and a good crew of people so it was great that they were rewarded with that victory last Wednesday and hopefully he can go on to some better races.

The other highlight of the week was obviously the win of SOUL DIVA at Caulfield on Saturday at the enormous odds of 50 to 1. We were optimistic rather than confident with the mare, being only her second run back from surgery. She is rising 9 years old and even though her first up run was solid we felt that she probably would need one more run under her belt. Congratulations to the owners, the Laurel Oak Grand Marcia Syndicate, Barry Hastie, Michael Forsdick, Garry Mortlock, Michael Baumann, John Woods & Paul Atley. She got a brilliant ride from Jake Noonan who positioned her in the right spot and the race panned out like a working gallop, she did no work early and only had to work home her last 200m. As far as her fitness was concerned she did not have to make a sustained run and was fit enough to do the job she did. That is the first metropolitan win for the combination of Tony and Jake Noonan which was a tremendous thrill, especially with this mare who has been very much a favourite of the stable. She was purchased as a yearling in Perth and has now had 35 starts for 11 wins which is an amazing strike rate. She has come back from a tendon injury and then last season after being placed at Group 2 level had a chip removed from her fetlock joint and so it is testimony to the Goulburn Valley Equine Centre with the surgery they have completed on her, our vets and farriers and to the staff who have put in many hours to get this mare back to being sound and confident. We are sure it will not be the last victory for Tony and Jake but it was a tremendous thrill to see the first in town. Jake has been riding quite well of late for a lad who has only being riding for about 18 months, he rode the mare very well and it was a great thrill for him. He learnt to ride on this mare and JACQUELINE ROUGE so being able to win on her was a great pleasure.

Just a reminder to everyone that we are coming up to the Greendale Ball on August 21st. At this stage of the year it was brought to our attention that we have had 55 winners for the season, 57 was our best which was last season so we are only 2 away so hopefully we can get some more winners in the remainder of the season and knock off that record! We are looking forward to catching up with everyone at the ball, it is our highlight event of the year and we are sure it will be well attended.
