Chosen One wins Garryowen Perpetual Trophy for Shae Hanger

Chosen One, formerly trained by Tony Noonan, has won the Garryowen Perpetual Trophy, one of Australia’s leading equestrienne events.

Known as “Floyd” around the Noonan stables during his time as a racehorse, he achieved limited success with 3 wins from 39 starts. He was subsequently retired in 2005 and purchased by Shae Hanger who planned to turn him into an eventing and dressage horse.

Noonan was always confident the gelding would make the grade in his post-racing career.

“He was a very attractive horse and had a wonderful temperament about him,” Noonan said.

“We bought him as a yearling and the owners loved him. He was a stable favorite amongst the staff too.

“I’m just so happy for Floyd and Shae.”

The Garryowen Perpetual Trophy has been an integral part of the Royal Melbourne Show since 1934 with many within the industry considering it the Melbourne Cup of show riding.
