Mezulla sensational at Sale

Mezulla produced a devastating turn of foot to score at Sale this afternoon in the Showcase Home Timber and Hardware BM70 race over 1400m for Mornington-based trainer Tony Noonan.

“She is a nice progressive mare and had two good runs coming into today,” Noonan said.

A city winner in her last preparation, Mezulla had stepped back in class but came through a very strong race at Sandown and proved too classy today to score by 1.75L.

“The wide gate was a concern but my racing manager was confident there would be plenty of speed early which really suited how we wanted Reece to ride her.

"He gave her a great ride."

Jumping from barrier 11, jockey Reece Wheeler was able to drift Mezulla onto the fence in transit where the mare relaxed well.

Upon straightening, Wheeler drove Mezulla through a split where she picked off the leaders with ease.

“I had a lovely run,” Wheeler said.

“She did no work and had the best run possible.

“By the time I got into the straight, I had a lot of horse under me.”
