Quicksilver Lass opens 2015 account for Tony Noonan

Jan 02, 2015

It took just two days of 2015 for Tony Noonan to open his account for the year when Quicksilver Lass flew home to take out the Trios After The Last BM64 Handicap over 1300m at Cranbourne.

Despite having to wait till 10.15pm for the final card of the night meeting program, the win was well worth the wait for Noonan and his team who endured the balmy night.

“The wide barrier did us no favours but Jake (Noonan) knows her inside-out and gave her a peach of a ride,” he said.

“This mare had no luck in winter so we sent her out for a long spell with the view of giving her a longer prep on firm tracks and she’s come back in fantastic order.”

Jumping from barrier 10, jockey Jake Noonan settled Quicksilver Lass ($13) backwards of midfield after the horses on her inside kicked up to ensure a quick tempo.

Making his move at the 400m mark, Jake worked his way around the field and peeled out as the widest runner upon straightening, giving the leader 5 lengths at the top of the straight.

When asked for an effort, the 6-year-old Testa Rossa mare picked off the field and surged to the line to score by 0.3L from Dashiell ($9) and Crusoe ($8.50) in third.

Following a break over the Christmas period, Jake Noonan has come back on fire with the win being his second in as many days since returning.
