Posh Rock salutes at Ballarat to land big VOBIS bonus
Feb 26, 2015
Jake Noonan produced an absolute gem of a ride at Ballarat in the racing.com Maiden Plate over 1400m to land a $20,000 VOBIS bonus for connections at Laurel Oak Bloodstock.
Trained by father Tony Noonan in Mornington, Posh Rock lefts punters lamenting after Jake produced a patient ride to box in odds-on favourite Frim And Frome to land the money.
“It was a good ol’ fashioned ride,” Tony said.
“You love seeing when the hot shot is on your inside and you don’t give them an inch.”
Although a maiden, the race carried a $20,000 VOBIS Gold bonus and was the second time in February that Noonan has targeted a VOBIS Gold maiden and won having done so with Swiftly Red (also for Laurel Oak Bloodstock) three weeks ago.
Jumping from barrier 7 in the field of 9, Posh Rock jumped well from the barriers to sit midfield with Frim And From ($1.95F) on his inside the entire journey.
With Noonan maintaining his line, the hot favourite was never able to get out with Posh Rock ($9) hitting the front in the final strides to score by a head from The Thug ($11) and ($11).
The win continued a stellar summer for the Tony Noonan stable.
