Tannaset too strong to the line at Echuca for solid win

Tannaset proved too strong at Echuca when running away with the Sportsbet-Watch Live Racing Handicap on Mobile Handicap for Mornington-based trainer Tony Noonan.
Despite having to wait until the final race of the card coupled with the four hour float trip from Mornington to Echuca, Tannaset relished a step up in distance to 1400m for the first time.
“She raced a bit ungenerously in the early stage but Rhys (McLeod) did a great job just holding her and not spending her early,” said Alfred Chan, Racing Manager for Tony Noonan.
“Being by Reset, we’ve always viewed this prep as the one where we step her up in distance and she showed how good she can be today with the extra ground.
“It was a great win for connections, especially Nigel Berry who bred her because his horses are flying at the moment and it’s great for his golden touch to rub off today.”
Although she missed the jump in her last start, the 4-year-old Reset mare jumped well from barrier 5 for rider Rhys McLeod who camped Tannaset midfield on the rail in running.
Despite racing the first 600m of the race with her mouth open, Rhys maintained his position before peeling out at the top of the straight, giving the leader a 6-length head start.
Once balanced up and in the clear, Tannaset ($5.50) ate up the ground and stormed to the lead 50m from the post to score by a length from Party Rocker ($4.60F) and Nippinsky ($12).
