Za Za Zooooms straight to the Winner’s Circle first-up

Za Za Zoom produced a good turn of foot to score impressively at Geelong this afternoon for Mornington-based trainer Tony Noonan.

Racing first-up over 1300m and for the first time on the Geelong Synthetic surface, jockey Jake Noonan gave the 4-year-old mare a perfect ride off the pace in a hotly run race.

“She tried really well this mare,” Noonan said.

“It’s good to see her handle this sort of surface.”

A gear change to apply a noseroll to her for the first time proved a stroke of genius with Noonan crediting stable staff for the victory also.

“She’s a filly that can get on the bridle and get keen,” he said.

“Credit to the track riders at Greendale who teach her how to settle in her work and I’m just happy to be part of the team today.”

Jumping from a wide barrier, Noonan drifted Za Za Zoom to the tail of the field with cover to get a lovely trail as a hot tempo was set up front.

Upon cornering, Noonan took advantage of an inside run as others peeled out towards the centre of the track as Za Za Zoom ($21) crept up along the rail to hit the front at the 100m mark and hold on from Lourdeaux ($11) and Chase The Rose ($4.60F) in third.
