Happy 90th Birthday Mick Robins

Jul 28, 2020

Australia’s oldest living Melbourne Cup-winning trainer has chalked up another milestone having yesterday celebrated his 90th birthday. Best known as the trainer of back-to-back Melbourne Cup winner Rain Lover in 1968 and 1969, Mick Robins enjoyed celebrations surrounded by family in his home town of Nhill.

Despite the allotted impost of 90 years, the veteran conditioner is still kicking strong as an active member of the racing community who tours annually with the Melbourne Cup across country towns of Australia.

Regularly splitting his time between Nhill and Mornington, Robins has been an active contributor to Tony Noonan’s stable since joining as an Assistant in the 90s when Noonan was seeking a mentor for his growing stable.

Despite plans to only stay on for a few months, Mick soon called Mornington home and has traveled interstate with the stable's carnival runners for the past 25 years.

More information about Robins is available at the Tony Noonan Racing Team page.
