Herbert Park went into plenty of black books after her first up win this preparation at Echuca. Those who have followed her since have had a profitable time as she put three wins together culminating in an impressive win in the last 3yo fillies race of the season at Caulfield.
Herbert Park had shown her liking for a wet track when winning on debut at Werribee in December. Given the unlikely event of striking a Heavy track in December, the stable were not sure what do expect that day although she had shown plenty in her fast work and trials leading in. Jake Noonan was in the saddle that day and she let down nicely to win going away. Her effectiveness in the wet going prompted Tony to put her away shortly after and get her ready for a winter campaign.
She resumed at Echuca with an impressive win and followed that up with an excellent mid week win at Sandown, giving stable apprentice Dakotah Keane her first metropolitan win. A special day all involved in the stable and great to have owners Danny & Carol Watson, Ken Ward and John O' Neill on track to enjoy a first metro win for horse and rider.
On the morning of her last win, everyone at Greendale was doing a rain dance as the expected rain had not yet come. In fact only 30 mins before Race 1 the rain finally came and the track became rain affected and played right to her strengths. She sat midfield under Jake Noonan and let rip with a devastating turn of foot to come away for a memorable win and a great finish to the racing season.
She has building an enviable CV with four wins from six starts and over $230,000 in prize money and Super Vobis bonuses. The filly's exploits on the track have been a source of great joy for connections who bred the filly from their very talented race mare Elite Elle. She too burst onto the scene winning her first four starts in 2012, the last of which being the Quezette Stakes at Caulfield. In later seasons she won three more times with numerous placings including in Stakes grade. She retired to stud having won over $430,000 for connections.
The name Herbert Park was chosen by part owner John O' Neill who grew up in Dublin, Ireland before moving to Melbourne many years ago. Herbert Park is a beautiful green space on the southside of Dublin City and a peaceful and beautiful haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life. An appropriate name for such a beautiful and talented filly.
Although we are enjoying the mild conditions in Melbourne at present, it is not ideal for Herbert Park who continues her daily training and is waiting for the heavens to open and bring the August weather we are used to here in Melbourne. There are plenty of wins to come and all at Greendale are waiting patiently to see her back at the track.
